Makayla Pewthers: Pioneering Success at LIFT Academy’s Myrtle Beach Campus

Makayla Pewthers is a 27-year-old Certificated Flight Instructor Instrument (CFI) and the second pilot to graduate from LIFT Academy’s Myrtle Beach location. Her journey in aviation is deeply rooted in her family’s legacy and her personal passion for flight.

Family History of Flight

Makayla’s fascination with aviation was ignited by her father, an agricultural pilot and part-owner of Ag Solutions in Kansas. With aviation woven into the fabric of her upbringing, it was natural for Makayla to follow in her father’s footsteps. Learning to fly under the tutelage of her father, who served as her Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI) for her private pilot’s license, Makayla embraced her family’s love for aviation. Notably, her grandfather was also a CFI, making her a proud third-generation pilot.

Education, Training and LIFT Academy Experience

Makayla’s formal aviation training began at LIFT Academy, where she embarked on her journey as an instrument-rated pilot in February 2023. Her dedication and hard work led her toward graduation in May 2024. Choosing LIFT Academy was drawn by the defined pathway to a career at Republic Airways upon successful completion of the program. Additionally, the allure of the Myrtle Beach location, with its coastal charm, was a compelling factor.
 

The culture at LIFT Academy has been a cornerstone of Makayla’s positive experience. The environment fosters camaraderie and mutual support among students, with peers readily assisting each other through challenges. “Students are always willing to help each other out and pick each other up when we are down. The support system is incredible. The staff is also always willing to go above and beyond to help you be successful,” she told us.

One of the highlights of Makayla’s journey at LIFT has been the friendships she has forged. The bonds created with fellow students, coupled with the efficient progression through the program, have enriched her experience. These relationships and the collaborative spirit at LIFT have been integral to her success and enjoyment.
 

Proudest Achievements and Future Aspirations

Makayla’s proudest achievement to date is becoming a CFI at LIFT Academy. This role allows her to help new students achieve their aviation goals. Looking ahead, she is excited about her future with Republic Airways, where she can continue to grow professionally and be among the aviation industry.
