Student safety is our number one priority at LIFT Academy, and no one knows that better than our dedicated Maintenance team. Their job is to ensure the well-being of our aircraft, and by extension, the safety of our flight school students. To further explain how Aviation Maintenance Technicians (or AMTs) support our flight training program, we sat down with Sean Gallinat, Director of Maintenance at LIFT Academy’s Indianapolis campus, and Tim Barker, Hangar Manager at LIFT Academy’s Indianapolis campus.
Safety is rooted in everything we do at LIFT Academy. It’s why our AMTs perform inspections and maintenance that go well beyond the industry requirements, and why we’ve invested in the resources they need to do so efficiently.
“Whatever it takes to have a safe and reliable aircraft, that’s what we’re gonna do,” said Sean. “That’s the culture we’re trying to maintain.”
Communication is another key element in creating a safe flight training environment. The Maintenance Leadership team checks in with each other daily to keep everyone up-to-date, and they hold quarterly safety briefings to do deep dives on different important topics.
Before your plane’s wheels ever leave the ground, LIFT’s dedicated Maintenance team has meticulously inspected the aircraft to ensure that it’s in top shape. These safety inspections take multiple hours to complete, but they won’t interfere with your flight hours.
“Thanks to the hard work of our dedicated Maintenance team, there’s almost always aircraft available,” said Tim.
AMTs support not only our students, but each other. If one campus needs extra manpower, they’ll travel there to keep things running smoothly and efficiently. That means no matter which location you complete your flight training at, you’ll have the full support of the Maintenance team behind you.
Our goal at LIFT Academy is to train well-rounded pilots, and that includes preparing you for the work environment inside the different hangars you’ll be in throughout your career as a Commercial Pilot. You’ll get to know Maintenance well, and as an aspiring pilot, it’s one of the most important relationships you’ll have here.
“Students see us every day,” said Sean. “They get to know our team, and that makes us want to go above and beyond for them.”
Our hangars operate in a similar fashion to those at Republic Airways and the mainlines, and that’s by design. That way, when you’re done with your training, you’ll feel right at home in and out of the flight deck.
